Purpose for Funding Opportunity

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) International is an independent nonprofit research institute and leading development organization headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA. Since 1958, RTI has worked in over 150 countries and designed and implemented cutting-edge solutions in the sectors of economic growth, governance, education, and health.
RTI is currently accepting grant applications for the Research Grant for the USAID-funded Study and Modeling of Management Capacity and System Strengthening Project (SMCS) in Lao PDR. The overall objective of this project is to develop the managerial systems and performance of academic, social, and economic organizations in Lao PDR. RTI is encouraging local organizations – LOs (e.g., universities’ faculties and offices, academic institutes, academic and research groups, research centers/institutes) to submit project proposals that address the following project objective detailed in the following section.
The purpose of the Research Grant is to strategically support local organizations to conduct research on social and economic development issues and turn research findings into policy briefs
that would inform the Lao government decision making and policy formulation.
The awardees are expected to adopt Participatory Action Research (PAR) or Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach in their proposed interventions. They should be tackling local problems in an innovative and sustainable way.
The issuance of this RFA does not constitute an award, a commitment on the part of RTI or USAID, nor does it commit to pay for costs incurred in the submission of an application. In addition, this RFA is not intended to replace any current or future funding agreements organizations may have with any government agency.
